Gore Bay Museum - Closed as of Aug 18,2026

Located within the historic Gore Bay court complex, the Museum once served as the Manitoulin District Jail and jailer’s residence until 1945. Today, it stands as one of the few remaining Ontario jails that still retains many of its original features, offering visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the rich history of Gore Bay and Manitoulin Island.

Visitors can explore a variety of self-guided exhibits that bring the past to life, including favorites such as the General Store, Dentist Office, and historic kitchen displays featuring everyday household items and labour-saving devices from years gone by. From artifacts and photographs to clothing and local memorabilia, the Museum offers an engaging experience for all ages.

In recognition of its dedication to preserving local heritage, the Museum received the Ontario Historical Society Russell K. Cooper Living History Site / Heritage-Based Museum Award in 2014.
