Gore Bay Museum - Opening May 23, 2026

The Gore Bay Museum is excited to welcome residents and visitors back for the 2026 season beginning Saturday, May 23, 2026.

Located within the historic Gore Bay court complex, the Museum once served as the Manitoulin District Jail and jailer’s residence until 1945. Today, it stands as one of the few remaining Ontario jails that still retains many of its original features, offering visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the rich history of Gore Bay and Manitoulin Island.

Visitors can explore a variety of self-guided exhibits that bring the past to life, including favourites such as the General Store, Dentist Office, and historic kitchen displays featuring everyday household items and labour-saving devices from years gone by. From artifacts and photographs to clothing and local memorabilia, the Museum offers an engaging experience for all ages.

In recognition of its dedication to preserving local heritage, the Museum received the Ontario Historical Society Russell K. Cooper Living History Site / Heritage-Based Museum Award in 2014.

Featured 2026 Exhibition – Heartfelt Heritage: Manitoulin Roots

This season, the Museum is proud to feature a special exhibition by Canadian artist Christie (Best) Pearson Anderson titled:

Heartfelt Heritage – Manitoulin Roots

The exhibit showcases a collection of paintings and drawings inspired by the beauty, memories, and heritage of Manitoulin Island. Visitors are invited to attend the official opening on:
