PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IN RELATION TO COVID-19:
Timelines for most Provincial Offences Act matters have returned to normal. Check your ticket or fine notice and ignore ticket instructions that say “do not mail” or “you must attend in person”. With Gore Bay POA you can request a trial or early resolution meeting by mail, fax or email.
The extension of statutory timelines up to and including February 26, 2021, including time to exercise your options on the Offence Notice (ticket), has now expired.
At Gore Bay POA we have resumed Early Resolution Meetings by Audio (no in-person). We are currently working on the resumption of POA trials with expectations they will be by remote appearance (audio and/or video). We are in the beginning stages of scheduling non trial matters ie first appearances, guilty pleas, withdrawals, motions, stays, judgement delivery, sentencing hearings, adjournments, applications, JPT’s, “to be spoken to” and “to set date” court appearances.
All in-person provincial offences trials are being rescheduled. If you are a defendant, a notice of your new court date will be sent to you by mail to the address on file with the court. If you were summoned to appear in court for a provincial offence during the period March 16, 2020, up to and including January 22, 2021, you do not need to attend, as the matter will be rescheduled.
Ontario Court of Justice appeal timelines are extended to April 12, 2021.
