LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD POLICY
The Council of The Corporation of the Town of Gore Bay has deemed it appropriate to institute a formal program to recognize those persons within our community who go or have gone above and beyond in their efforts to benefit others. By this means, Council intends to honour outstanding citizens. This program is intended to recognize those persons that have had a profound impact for good on the community, which may have been accomplished by going above and beyond that which is normally required in the course of their vocation, career, business, volunteer work or public office.
This award program includes all people of Gore Bay, including seasonal residents, whose time spent in this community and contributing to this community truly makes a difference and has a very positive impact on the quality of life in Gore Bay.
Lifetime Achievement Award:
This award will be given to a person or persons or group that has enhanced the quality of life for the people of Gore Bay on an ongoing basis for an extended period of time. Nominees do not need to be in their senior years to be considered for a Lifetime Achievement Award. Rather, nominees must have made a sufficiently significant positive impact on the community to have made a lasting difference in the community.
A single award could be made to one individual, or to more than one individual such as a couple or a family, or a group of persons such as the founding member of a group or organization that is now sustainable and recognized in the community.
This award will be given out as Council deems fit. There is no requirement to give out the award on an annual basis.
Process of Qualification
All nominations are to be submitted on the Municipality’s nomination form. Forms can be downloaded here, or picked up at the Gore Bay Municipal Office at 15 Water Street. Nominations can be made by any resident (year round or seasonal) or landowner within the Corporation of the Town of Gore Bay or their immediate family members, but self nominations are not permitted. The completed form must include the name and signature of the nominator and a seconder. Nomination forms will be received by the Municipal Clerk and recorded at the Municipal Office. Once staff has reviewed the nomination forms for completeness, they will be forwarded to General Government Committee for review and a recommendation to Council for a decision.
Council may also nominate and choose an award recipient.
The deadline for nominations is the last working day of April in each year.
Nominations will be requested on an annual basis via local newspaper and Gore Bay website.
Awards will be presented to the recipients or to a family member at a regular Council meeting or as such other location as Council deems appropriate. In addition, the names of the recipients will be inscribed on a special plaque hung in the lobby of the Municipal Building located at 15 Water Street.
